Environmentally Friendly and Contributing Products 2019

While contributing to global environmental conservation and reduction of environmental impact through our products and its applications, we have promoted development of new technologies and sales of products to reduce such impact from the products themselves based on our guidelines for "Environmentally Friendly and Contributing Products" as follows.  

Every year, we develop new environmentally friendly and contributing products. Here are some typical examples from the current fiscal year.

Environmentally Friendly Products

Products that are designed to have less impact on the environment, such as by reducing the amount of waste or designing products that are easy to recycle, and that have improved one or more of the following compared to conventional products.

  • Smaller, thinner and lighter
  • Power saving
  • Longer service life
  • Products with reduced or eliminated hazardous substances (hazardous substances: RoHS 10 substances, the environment-related substances to be controlled set by us, etc.)
  • Reusability (reuse)
  • Recyclability (recycling)
  • Ease of disposal (ease of disassembly in case of equipment)

Environmentally Contributing Products

The products themselves or the final products using them that contributes to and are used for applications such as the conservation of the global environment.

  • Prevention of global warming, diffusion of new and renewable energy sources
  • Prevention of ozone depletion, air pollution, water pollution, and soil contamination; analysis of pollutants
  • Analysis of chemical substances contained in products, evaluation of toxicity of chemical substances
  • Reduction, separation and disposal of waste

Case Studies

●CERARION®

One of the ion detectors used in mass spectrometers and other instruments is a channel electron multiplier tube made of lead glass. The CERARION® detector we have developed is lead-free and highly robust, thanks to a technology that forms the shape of the detector with ceramics and constructs a secondary electron multiplier film and resistive film on the channel wall.

●InAs/GaSb Type II Superlattice Infrared Detector

One of the ion detectors used in mass spectrometers and other instruments is a channel electron multiplier tube made of lead glass. ●Si Photodiode with Interference Filter for Monochromatic Light Detection

S12742 series is an element for environmental analyzers for exhaust gas detection and water quality testing, for which demand is increasing in line with tighter international regulations. The extremely narrow sensitivity wavelength range enables accurate measurement with minimal stray light, making it possible to reduce the size and weight of devices (optical systems) used for exhaust gas detection (NOx: nitrogen oxides), water quality testing (total nitrogen), and wastewater testing (TOC: total carbon, COD: chemical oxygen demand).

●Photosensor with Front-end IC

S13282-01CR and S14847-01CR are compact optical devices integrating a SiAPD and a preamplifier, and are used for devices that measure the distance to an object using the TOF (Time-of-Flight) method. Since a front-end IC is incorporated, the number of signal processing circuit components can be reduced, contributing to smaller and lighter mounting boards.

●TDI-CCD Image Sensor

S14810, S14811, and S14813 are image sensors used for machine vision, industrial inspection, etc. They incorporate a CMOS readout IC and provide digital output. Conventional analog output image sensors require a signal processing circuit, but the S14810, S14811, and S14813 can significantly reduce the number of components on a circuit board, thus reducing the area of the circuit board.

 

TDI CCD-CMOS image sensor

●MPPC Module

C13852 series is a photon counting module with a built-in electronically cooled MPPC and a high-voltage power supply circuit. It can detect extremely weak light and is used in applications such as blood analysis, ophthalmological diagnosis, and gas measurement. By reviewing the design structure, we have achieved a volume reduction of approximately 85% compared to our previous product, contributing to the miniaturization and weight reduction of the equipment used.

●CMOS area Image Sensor

S11685-24 is used for industrial product and food inspections and for radiographic imaging in dentistry. Compared to conventional products, the time required to take a single photograph is approximately two-thirds of that required for conventional products, improving inspection work efficiency and reducing the burden on the patient. In addition, the shortened sensor use time also contributes to energy saving in equipment and inspections.

●InGaAs Area Image Sensor

G14674-0808W is an image sensor capable of capturing images in the near-infrared region invisible to the human eye. It is mounted on a camera for hyperspectral imaging and used for sorting recycled waste plastics, etc. The G14674-0808W has sensitivity in the longer wavelength range (1.7 μm to 2.55 μm) compared to conventional products, and is expected to enable sorting of resins containing brominated flame retardants, a task that has been difficult until now.

●ORCA-Fusion Digital CMOS Camera

The C14440-20UP is a digital camera using an ultra-low noise CMOS solid-state image sensor and is used in the fields of scientific measurement and industrial inspection. Compared to the conventional product, the number of pixels has been increased by 1.27 times, the data rate has been increased by 1.13 times, and readout noise has been reduced by approximately half. The camera size is the same and the weight has been reduced to about 55%.
