As a company that makes use of light to create value for society and the environment, we will continue endeavoring to achieve our vision for the future based on the management philosophy of the Hamamatsu Photonics Group.

We work to foster a world where harmony, collaboration, and co-creation can be achieved through photonics technology, recognizing the positive and negative impacts of our existence on society and the environment.

We strive to always be a reputable and trustworthy company while upholding high ethical standards among all employees.

In order to achieve this, we have identified material issues and goals to be addressed (Materiality). We remain committed to challenging ourselves to reach our vision for the future.

 

Basic policy on corporate governance

Under our management philosophy, we have established this basic policy with a view to realize the ideal corporate governance based on the resolution of our board of directors. This policy is designed to enable the Hamamatsu Photonics Group to achieve sustainable growth, enhance enterprise value in the long-term and to enable our shareholders to hold our shares with continued confidence.

Basic approach to corporate ethics and compliance

On the basis of the basic policy on corporate governance, we are aware of the Corporate Social Responsibility and will strictly abide by laws and regulations. In addition, each employee acts with a high ethical outlook and a spirit of pursuit in the unknown and unexplored.

Basic Policy of Sustainability

 

Since our founding in 1953, we have consistently pursued "light" and have made it our basic philosophy to contribute to society and the development of science and technology through world-class manufacturing using optical technology. Aiming to grow as a company that is sound and trusted, we will maintain a high awareness of sustainability and promote business together with all stakeholders.

 

1. We will strictly adhere to corporate ethics, comply with relevant laws and regulations, international rules, and the spirit thereof, and respect human rights.

2. We will conduct ecologically-sound and sustainable business activities, considering and contributing to the environment.

3. We will respect our employees, support their development, and provide a pleasant and safe work environment.

4. We will provide safe and high-quality products and services.

5. We will conduct fair transactions, appropriately manage information, and prevent unauthorized access, information leakage, and unauthorized use.

Fundamental CSR policy

Corporate activities are based on each employee’s behavior. Each employee must pursue the unknown and unexplored through improving themselves everyday through their work, absorbing new knowledge and the accurate communication of information with having responsibilities, duties and recognition. In addition, we must respect human rights and strictly abide by all relevant laws and international rules in letter and spirit. Moreover, we have to cultivate a corporate culture in which every employee acts ethically as a member of society.

In order for our country to survive in the world, it is important to acquire knowledge and establish new industries by pursuing the unknown and unexplored for mankind.

We have established this policy with a view to contribute to society and human welfare by creating new industries through maintaining a high ethical outlook each employee has and leveraging photonics technology.In addition, we aim to grow and develop as a strong and trusted company.

Key matters to be addressed and targets (Materiality) 

We have analyzed and rated the significance of risks and opportunities related to various sustainability issues, including the impact on our business activities, value chain and stakeholders. We have also considered the effect of future social and environmental changes on our business. The Board of Executive Officers and the Board of Directors discussed and decided on the following  eight themes to address these important issues and goals.

Organization

We established the “Sustainability Management Committee” in October 2021.
This Committee promotes a company-wide response under the leadership of the officer in charge as the chairperson. The status of the activities of each committee under the Sustainability Management Committee is reported to the Board of Directors, and the intentions of the Board of Directors are reflected in the activities of each committee.
