What does light make possible?

Light is a tool that we can use to open up a world never before glimpsed by mankind. The more we think about light, the more excited we become by our expectations of what it offers. What we hope to explore is the ultra-short time region of the femtosecond, and the configuration of microscopic life invisible to the naked eye, and light-based technology and its application are the only tools that can clarify these mysteries for us.

At Hamamatsu Photonics, we are deeply committed to research in the essential nature of light and in its industrial applications, and our work involves a broad spectrum of contributions in diverse fields. One of our goals in the essential meaning is to achieve mental and physical health, and further we are helping to solve the energy and substance shortages of the world.

At Hamamatsu Photonics, we go far beyond technological development; we are beginning to delve into fields as yet unexplored by mankind through opto-science, and to develop whole new industries. Based on our extensive experience in opto-technology, and working hand-in-hand with industries both at home and abroad, we are formulating a basic plan to realize the concept of a "Photonics Industry Development Graduate School", which will be charged with developing new industries based on light. Planning is also underway for a New Industry Development Laboratory where the results of the Graduate School will be applied. These concepts are taking concrete form in our industrial development base in Kurematsu, Hamamatsu City.
