Social Contribution

At Hamamatsu Photonics, we consider the true goal of our corporate activities to be creating "new sciences". Each one of our employees constantly keeps the question in mind of how we can serve a useful role at the local and other levels of society, based on the opto-technology that we consider to be our raison d'être. I'm convinced that that constant awareness is one step bringing us closer to our goal.

Cultural and artistic activities

Hamamatsu Conference

We provide clear and lucid explanations of state-of-the-art research in opto-technology to local residents, as well as holding a "Hamamatsu Conference" every year in which we give thought to areas relating to new cultures.

Academic and scholastic activities

Mind/Brain Science 国際会議

By holding international conferences and providing assistance in research activities, we're working to spread opto-technology and educate people about it.

The Graduate school for the Creation of New Photonics Industries

As we move into the 21st century, remarkable globalization is taking place throughout the world in both industrial and economic sectors. In Japan, which has built the foundation for an economic empire by taking academic learning and technologies introduced from foreign countries and further developing and expanding applications for those technologies, we're now finding that we ourselves need to create new industries, and in turn new cultures, which we can then send out into the rest of the world. The Graduate School for the Creation of New Photonics Industries was established by Hamamatsu Photonics and other enterprises for the purpose of cultivating human resources capable of launching new industries that will focus on light and its infinite possibilities. Put differently, the founding of new industries itself is the foremost objective of education at the University.

At Hamamatsu Photonics, our aim is to make it possible to detect cancer and senile dementia at the early stages, and to initiate early medical treatment, through testing that uses opto-technology. We hope that, by doing this, we can contribute to realizing a society in which people can live long and healthy lives. In keeping with that goal, the Hamamatsu Medical Photonics Foundation was established with Hamamatsu Photonics as the parent organization. We built the Hamamatsu Positron Medical Center on the grounds of the Hamamatsu Central Laboratory, and are currently using PET systems and other means to detect these diseases at the early stages, under the banner of "eradicating cancer and dementia from the area".
