ICG fluorescence method

Observation by ICG fluorescence

When ICG is administered as a bolus intravenously, the PDE is able to visualize the ICG fluorescence allowing a qualitative assessment of blood flow and tissue perfusion.


Fluorescence characteristic of ICG

After bonding with plasma protein in the blood, ICG will become excited with near infrared light and fluoresce at a slightly longer near infrared wavelength. The PDE's special sensor and filters will see this fluorescence clearly through a range of human soft tissue.

a) Identification of hepatic segments

Case: Possible to secure the Glisson’s sheath of the dominant region from the porta hepatis

Identify and secure the Glission’s sheath and then insert a clamp before intravenously injecting ICG for the PDE observation.

Case: Impossible to secure the Glission’s sheath of the dominant region from the porta hepatis

Use intraoperative ultrasonography to pucture the dominant Glission’s sheath and inject the ICG. Clamp the portal vein and perform the PDE observation.

b) Intraoperative cholangiography

Case: Intraoperative fluorescent cholangiography: Intraductal injection method

While observing the fluorescence with PDE, inject ICG into the bile duct through and indwelling imaging catheter.

Intravenously inject ICG one hour before the start of surgery, and perform imaging with PDE.
