One pathology slide read every five minutes: NDP slide scanner inducing faster digitalization in pathology field

04/07/2005

The "NDP" automatically transports pathology slides containing patient tissue samples one at a time, scans (reads) them, converts them to digital slides containing approximately 1.9 billion pixels, and sends the data to a server within an interval of around five minutes. Operation is extremely easy; slides are housed in a cassette which is inserted into the NDP, and are processed using computer screen operation. The pathologist operates the mouse in the same way as handling a microscope, and can view the digital slides on the computer screen and make diagnoses. Because up to 210 pathology slides can be housed in the NDP, the slides can be set in the evening and will be processed overnight, so that the digital slides are ready in the morning.
