Introducing the world's first CdTe (cadmium telluride) radiation line sensor "C10413" capable of differentiating radiation energy to measure the elements and states of a substance by utilizing transmission X-rays.

We also plan to release a thermoelectrically cooled CdTe radiation point sensor "D10437" with temperature controller by the end of this year.

Hamamatsu Photonics is the first in the world to manufacture and market an energy differentiation type 64-channel CdTe radiation line sensor "C10413". The C10413 uses a direct conversion semiconductor (cadmium telluride : CdTe) as the detector that simultaneously measures the number of radiation photons* (X-rays, gamma-rays) in 5 different energy regions to acquire their images. We will put this radiation line sensor on the market on October 2nd, 2006, primarily for product R&D by business corporations and experimental work by academic institutions.
Along with this radiation line sensor, we also design and produce custom devices to meet customer needs.

We are also developing a thermoelectrically cooled CdTe radiation point sensor "D10437" with temperature controller featuring a compact size and excellent energy resolution. Sample products will be available from this November. Then we plan to launch sales by the end of this year for use in spectrometers, X-ray monitors, thickness gauges, densimeters and inspection equipment.

By utilizing information on radiation energy passing through a substance acquired with our energy differentiation type 64-channel CdTe radiation line sensor "C10413", it will be possible to identify its substance elements and to measure material quantities that include the substance thickness, density and concentration. Potential applications for the C10413 include foreign object inspection of foods, baggage screening, industrial non-destructive testing such as for plumbing, structures and containers, and medical radiography such as X-ray CT and bone densitometry.

The thermoelectrically cooled CdTe radiation point sensor "D10437" with temperature controller is a single-element CdTe radiation (X-ray, gamma-ray) sensor that offers high sensitivity over a wide energy range and high energy resolution. Since the CdTe detector element is kept at a constant temperature by the thermoelectric cooler (Peltier cooler) and temperature controller, its output characteristics will remain stable even if the ambient temperature varies.
