The S2D2 is equipped with the world's smallest thermionic cathode type deuterium (D2) lamp, and provides the higher stability and output than any other light source of similar size.
Hamamatsu, Japan – August 23, 2007 – Hamamatsu Photonics K.K. has developed the world's smallest thermionic cathode type deuterium (D2) lamp, which is roughly one-fifth the size of its predecessor and the smallest in the world. This lamp is at the core of the company's new S2D2 compact UV-Vis fiber light source (part number: L10671). The S2D2 features higher stability and higher output than any other compact light source of its kind. It is expected to contribute to the development of a variety of instruments, including handheld environmental measuring instruments for the inspection
of factory waste liquids, miniature spectrophotometers, and instruments for biological research.
Production release of the S2D2 is scheduled to begin on August 29, 2007. The S2D2 will be offered to Japan-based as well as international manufacturers of analytical instruments. It will be on display at the Japan Analytical Instruments Manufacturers Association (JAIMA) Show 2007, one of the largest exhibitions for analytical instruments in Japan, at Makuhari Messe from August 29 to 31.
