Hamamatsu, Japan – October 15, 2009 – Hamamatsu Photonics K.K. has completed the construction of a new building for the development of portable products which combine optical systems with photonic devices. The new facility, called the “Business Promotion Project Building,” is located on the grounds of the company’s Central Research Laboratory.
A completion ceremony will be held on October 16, 2009. Operations will begin in November 2009.
The Business Promotion Project Building will serve as a technology center for the various manufacturing divisions of Hamamatsu Photonics. The new facility will house equipment that is used in the development of integral optics-based products, and it will be the new office for R&D groups which have been working on companywide integral optics projects during the past several years. Furthermore, the new facility will enable Hamamatsu Photonics to consolidate its expertise on various technologies related to integral optics, which until now has been distributed among the various divisions of the company. These technologies include those for optical systems design, optical thin film manufacturing, and MOEMS/opto-nanotechnology device fabrication. Through this consolidation, the company will be better positioned to accumulate new know-how in integral optics. It will also improve its efficiency in new product development.
