Photonics West

 

Photonics West began in 1995 and has become the biggest trade show of the photonics industry. Each year our booth not only showcases the best of our new products, but also gives you a preview of things to come.

 

In the past ten years, we’ve introduced many major technologies at Photonics West including silicon photomultipliers (SiPM), MEMS devices, award-winning micro-spectrometers, ultra-compact micro PMTs, and scientific CMOS cameras.

LiDAR with APD

 
Summary

Sunlight creates background noise in automotive LiDAR application. It can obscure the signal of interest, such as the laser light reflected off of other cars or people.

 

When you move the target in this demo you will see the change in the time of flight of the reflected signal on the oscilloscope. The sunlight (simulated with halogen lamp) has no influence on the output of our APD and transimpedance amplifier in the same package.

CO2 detection

Summary

Perform gas sensing accurately and cost effectively with RoHS compliant materials with our P13243 series InAsSb detectors.

 

Use a straw to exhale into the chamber. The CO2 from your breath absorbs light from the 4.3 micron LED. The detector senses the change in signal, and shows relative concentration on the PC interface.

2D scan flash LiDAR for MPPC array


 
Summary

This color-coded image display shows how an MPPC array can be used in a scanning flash LiDAR application.

 

The MPPC array 32ch and driver circuit allows the system designer to scan in 1D horizontally instead of having to scan vertically as well.

Oil and water identification with MEMS-FPI

Summary

Not only are the MEMS-FPI sensors (C13272-02 and C14272) sensitive to NIR light without using an expensive InGaAs sensor, their size, cost, and performance makes them very powerful for applications such as material identification.

 

Hold the module over a stain on the cloth. A spectrum will be displayed on the screen, identifying the source of the stain as oil or water.

Raman

Summary

Experience portability and performance with the C13560 SERS detection module that lets you use Raman in environments where bulky benchtops aren’t able to fit.

 

Simply insert the substrate into the aperture and activate the laser through the mobile interface. PMBA has already adsorbed onto the SERS substrate serving as the analyte, so the Raman signal appears on the screen in real time.

Color detection

Summary

Many color management applications can be developed with our C12666MA micro-spectrometer, such as this color matching demo.

 

Hold the module over a color target of your choosing and press the button on the module to shine the white LED. The micro-spectrometer inside will read the signal. A mobile app will first show the signal as a reflectance spectrum, and then give the results: coordinates on an X-Y color plane and a replication of the target color.

Vein imaging


 
Summary

The C13801-50U camera utilizes the S13101 image sensor in order to achieve high sensitivity in the infrared region. Using non-invasive technology, this portable device can detect and image veins in real-time, allowing for a faster, easier, accurate method.

 

Images can be processed in HC Image Live for higher contrast in order to view smaller veins. Simply insert hand in the slit in front of the diffuser plate and adjust the LED current until a high contrast image appears in the software.
