Hamamatsu releases a compact Compton camera to facilitate the work of radiation decontamination

2013/09/10

Hamamatsu, Japan – September 10, 2013 – Hamamatsu Photonics K.K. has announced the release of a high-sensitivity Compton camera that is smaller, lighter, and much lower in cost than conventional models. Featuring Hamamatsu’s MPPC (Multi Pixel Photon Counter) as the detector, the new Compton camera can be used to capture high-precision images that show the location of gamma radiation within the scene in just a few minutes. The camera itself weighs only 1.9 kg, which is roughly a quarter of the weight of conventional models. This combination of features is expected to help increase the efficiency of radiation decontamination tasks.
Hamamatsu will exhibit the new Compton camera at Photon Fair 2013, the company’s new technology exhibition to be held from November 7 to 9 at the Act City Hamamatsu convention center in Hamamatsu, Japan.
