Hamamatsu, one of the world’s largest suppliers of advanced light detectors and detector systems for industrial, scientific, and commercial applications, has a full-time opening for an Account Manager, based out of our San Jose, CA location.  Our customer base is remarkably diverse; we serve Fortune 100 firms, top research labs, and innovative startups as well.  Hamamatsu’s mission is to improve the welfare of society through the advancement of photonics technology.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key accounts and individuals at all levels within the assigned accounts including technical engineers, purchasing, QA and corporate management 
  • Create strategic customer plans to maximize account penetration
  • Proactively identify new projects or development efforts at key accounts and match to Hamamatsu’s capabilities and new products  
  • Maintain meaningful sales forecasts for all opportunities with the assigned accounts
  • Maximize profit while maintaining a high level of customer loyalty by independently negotiating relevent PO's and contracts with assigned key accounts
  • Become proficient with project management tools and communication skills needed to handle complex development programs with key opportunities
  • Special projects as assigned

Required qualifications:

  • 6 years of applicable OEM sales experience or internal Hamamatsu sales/product knowledge/experience/success
  • B.S. degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
  • 5 years experience in Photonics industry
  • Experience in negotiation of business contracts above $1M

Preferred qualifications:

  • Key account/Program Management Training
  • Experience with Customer Resource Management Software
  • Experience with international business development
  • Experience with Lotus Notes


This position requires working with, or exposure to goods and information that may be subject to the jurisdiction of the US State Department ITAR regulations and the Commerce Departments CCL.
