Touchless display

Touchless display is a display that can be operated without contact by detecting the position of the hand that approaches the screen. There is a growing need for such displays in hospitals and other facilities where hygiene must be taken into consideration and where a large number of people use the display. Hamamatsu offers a wide range of light emitters and photosensors that can be applied as non-contact switches for touchless displays.

Principle of non-contact switch

Transmissive type

Light emitters and photosensors are placed around the display. Touchless operation is detected when the infrared light emitted by the light emitter is blocked by the hand.

Reflective type

Light emitters and photosensors are placed above or behind a display on a wall or in the air. Touchless operation is detected when infrared light from the light emitter is reflected by the hand and the reflected light is captured by the photosensor.

Distance area image sensors

This sensor measures the distance to an object using the TOF method. It is used in combination with a pulse-modulated light source, and outputs phase difference information of emission and reception timing.
