By harnessing our unique advanced opto-semiconductor manufacturing technology, we succeeded in developing a new liquid-crystal spatial light modulator (SLM) *1 with the world’s largest-class effective area, that is about four times larger than our previously developed SLM and so has enhanced heat resistance. Applying this new SLM to high-power industrial CW (continuous wave) laser systems will improve the efficiency and accuracy of laser thermal processing by controlling laser irradiation patterns. For example, laser beam applications including metal 3D printers use lasers to sinter metal powder for fabricating solid parts such as shipping and logistic equipment parts.
