HAMAMATSU Photonics Group Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Targets Certified by SBTi

2021/11/25

On October 2021, HAMAMATSU Photonics has had its emissions reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative as consistent with levels required to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
The targets covering greenhouse gas emissions from HAMAMATSU Group operations (scopes 1 and 2) are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to well-below 2°C. Besides, our target for the emissions from its value chain (scope 3) meet the SBTi’s criteria for ambitious value chain goals, meaning they are in line with current best practice

■HAMAMATSU Group GHG Emission Reduction Targets

Scope 1 + 2* 30% reduction by FY2031 [Compared to FY2019 (fiscal year ended September 2019)]
Scope 3 * Category 11 (Emissions from use of sold products):
15% reduction by FY2031 [Compared to FY2019]
Category 1 (Emissions from purchased goods and services):
76% of suppliers by spend covering purchased products and service will have science-based targets by FY2026. (fiscal year ended September 2026)

*Scope1:Direct emissions from use of fuels, GHGs from non-energy sources, etc.
Scope2:Indirect emissions from electricity and heat purchased and used, etc.
Scope3:Indirect emissions from the value chain (excluding those covered by Scope 1 + Scope 2)

In parallel to this goal, Hamamatsu photonics is also targeting our Long-Term Vision of Global Warming Countermeasures We will continue to work toward the achievement of decarbonized society through implementation of initiatives on value chain engagement, as well as saving energy, introducing renewable energy, reducing of non-energy related GHG emissions, and developing and expanding sales of low carbon products.
