Proprietary air cooling method ThoMaS | LIGHTNINGCURE LC-L5G: Linear irradiation type UV-LED units

LC-L5G are high output and adopting proprietary air-cooling method. Conventional UV-LED light sources cannot achieve high-throughput, but LC-L5G can achieve it.

This video introduces the proprietary air cooling method ThoMaS for the LIGHTNINGCURE LC-L5G: linear irradiation type UV-LED unit. Please take a look at this.

Thermal observation: Thermal analysis technology

“Thermal Observation” is a thermal analysis technology for the highly efficient cooling of a UV-LED light source.
Our understanding about heating value is gained by combining simulation with actual equipment evaluation. Optimization is achieved in a short period of time, based on how the air flow is “circulated”, “directed” and “contacted” on the intended target, based on the velocity vector and temperature distribution.
Engineers at Hamamatsu, with their expert knowledge of thermal analysis, continuously work on the pursuit of high-performance cooling mechanisms.

Sylphy air: Material: Proprietary cooling structure

“Sylphy Air” is a patent-pending proprietary cooling structure of Hamamatsu.
Optimized the arrangement of the air intake port, heat sink, duct and cooling fan in a dedicated design, to raise the level of cooling performance, which is the key to high light output, to the ultimate degree.

Air guide fins installed in new heat sink

The air is drawn in through the air intake port on the side of the product and then fed into the heat sink.
Installing air guide fins inside the heat sink creates air flow within the heat sink and improves cooling performance.
Comparing the performance of the new type heat sink with a conventional heat sink in terms of their velocity vector and temperature distribution shows that air flow contacts the base surface of the new heat sink more efficiently to achieve better cooling.

Dual-wall insulation structure for exhaust duct

The air flow passing through the heat sink is expelled from the cooling fan on top of the product through the exhaust duct at the center of the product.
The exhaust duct is built with a dual-wall insulation structure. All sides of the exhaust duct are surrounded by cooling air so are not in contact with the outer enclosure. This arrangement prevents the enclosure temperature from rising. When operating two or more light source units in a daisy-chain operations, this dual-wall insulation structure helps suppress mutual elevation of the enclosure temperature to eliminate adverse effects on the irradiance distribution characteristics as well as reduce the thermal load on the UV-LED light source itself.

Material: Proprietary cooling material

“Material” is a unique cooling material under development by Hamamatsu.
This new type of heat sink “Sylphy air”, features an unprecedented high cooling performance with a volume of 795 cm3 and a weight of 1060 g.
Hamamatsu aims to achieve further size reduction and improvement in performance, and has started the development of a next-generation heat sink with a proprietary cooling material, which is intended to reduce its size to half and the weight to a third, while delivering the same cooling performance as a new type heat sink in the future. The progress of this development for a next-generation heat sink will lead to a significant size reduction of the UV-LED light source, achieving half the volume while delivering the same level of performance. In addition, if kept at the same size, there is a potential for higher performance and expansion of uses for the UV-LED light source.
