FAQ | Multichannel detector head controllers

What are the supported OS and development environment for the software supplied with image sensor driver circuits, multichannel detector heads, or controllers?

I would like to acquire temporally continuous data. Is this possible?

Products with a USB 2.0 interface may not acquire temporally continuous data (part of continuous data is thinned), though depending on the performance of the PC used and the repetition time, etc. Initially, data is transferred to the PC through the USB 2.0 interface without any problem, but the data transfer gradually delays depending on the performance and operating status of the PC (for example due to interrupt handling of another USB device connected or software simultaneously used). If the amount of data transfer begins to fail to keep pace with the amount of data that has been A/D converted, the next scan's data is skipped causing a state in which data is thinned. When a continuous measurement is performed at a high-speed repetition rate, this phenomenon occurs more significantly. The line rate listed in our datasheet of products with a USB 2.0 interface is the theoretical value at which data is continuously transferred from the circuit to the PC without loss.
In the case of products with a CameraLink interface, the above phenomenon does not occur and so continuous data can be obtained.

After starting the application software DCam-CL for multichannel detector heads with a CameraLink interface, I cannot connect the multichannel detector head to the PC correctly even by selecting Connect→Search. What is a problem?

Check the following two points:

1.Select the appropriate camera file. For example, when using the C11512 series and PCIe-1427, select the c11512_1427_max.iid file for the Measurement&Automation software (made by National Instruments) or select the c11512_1427.iid file for the DCam-CL software (made by Hamamatsu). When using a multichannel detector head other than the C11512 series or a frame grabber board other than those made by National Instruments, select the camera file that supports them.

2.The "Measurement&Automation" and "DCam-CL" cannot be used at the same time. When starting the DCam-CL, make sure that the Measurement&Automation is not running. To start the DCam-CL after the Measurement&Automation has been running, turn off the power to the multichannel detector head and turn it back on, then start the DCam-CL.

What frame grabber board do you recommend for multichannel detector heads with a CameraLink interface?

We recommend using the following boards made by National Instruments:
PCIe-1427, PCIe-1429, PCIe-1430, PCIe-1433
Although other manufacturers' frame grabber boards operate multichannel detector heads, they cannot be used in combination with the DLL and application software that come with a multichannel detector head. If using a frame grabber board made by other manufacturers, operate the multichannel detector head by sending the commands listed in the instruction manual and also using the DLL supplied with the frame grabber board.

Is a multichannel detector head supplied with a cable?

The dedicated cable is not supplied with multichannel detector heads. However, it is supplied with the C7557-01 multichannel detector head controller for connection to a detector head.

What are the specifications of the power supply used for multichannel detector heads?

Use a power supply generating as little noise as possible. A stabilized DC power supply is recommended. Avoid using switching power supplies as much as possible.

I would like to replace the sensor in the multichannel detector head by myself. Is this possible?

The user can replace the sensor. However, the user must take sufficient measures against static electricity when handling the sensor and detector head. Refer to the instruction manual for how to replace the sensor. Please note that if the user damages the sensor or detector head during replacement, then the warranty is void even if still within the warranty period. So use plenty of caution if replacing the sensor.
