Strategic Business Development Manager Europe, Pilot Line Leader
Marco Mayer began his career as a mechanical engineer, where he developed skills in optics. His early professional experience spanned various industries, including Telecom and datacom, Ophthalmology, and more. He applied his broad industry knowledge to sales, focusing on optoelectronic components and systems.
In 1990, he joined Hamamatsu Photonics as an Area Manager for Switzerland, leading the local sales team. He also heads the European Think Tank group, providing strategic support with responsibilities in Sales and Marketing throughout Europe. In January 2022, Marco's role evolved to Strategic Business Development Manager at Hamamatsu Europe, where he continues to drive the company's growth and collaborate with teams such as the Rapid Design Group, the Technical Marketing Group, and the MarCom team.

Hubert Ortner, a graduate engineer in electronics from the Technical University of Munich (Dipl.-Ing.), joined Hamamatsu in September 1983. Based in Herrsching, he initially worked as a Sales Engineer for the Systems Product group, advancing to Group Leader of Systems Sales (1994-2001) and Sales Manager of Systems (2001-2010).
From 2010 to 2024, he served as Sales Director of Systems and contributed to the European Think Tank Group, supporting organizational transformation. Since 2021, Hubert has been the Strategic Business Development Manager for Hamamatsu Photonics Europe, driving growth initiatives and collaborating with teams such as the Rapid Design Group, the Technical Marketing Group, and the MarCom team.
Group Leader Technical Marketing Engineers Europe, Pilot Line Member
Dr. Frank Tobias heads the Technical Marketing Engineer Group of Hamamatsu Photonics Europe, which manages a diverse portfolio of products and drives business analysis and development across Europe.
Before joining Hamamatsu, Frank worked for many years as a Product Manager and in product development. Frank holds a Ph.D. in Physics and a MSc in Biophysics.
Technical Marketing Engineer Europe, Pilot Line Member
Gaetano has been with Hamamatsu Photonics since 2021 and specializes in the promotion and sales support of photonics components, including mid-infrared detectors, light sources, and spectrometers. He is dedicated to advancing the use of Hamamatsu's products in environmental sensing and precision agriculture applications.
Before this role at Hamamatsu Photonics, Gaetano worked as an Application Engineer in the US, where he played a key role in helping customers choose the right machine vision components for their projects in industrial automation and quality control.
Gaetano's educational background includes a master’s in biomedical engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 2016.
Rapid Design Group Europe, Pilot Line Member
Originally from Japan, Dariush Ken Uchimura studied physics in Germany, the birthplace of many of his favorite physicists. After graduating with an award-winning thesis in high-energy physics, he spent an additional year as a researcher before joining Hamamatsu in 2015.
As a sales engineer, Dariush gained invaluable insights into the Hamamatsu company and developed his skills in providing technical solutions. His expertise and dedication led to his role in establishing the Europe-based Rapid Design Group in 2022, which focuses on delivering custom solutions to our EU customers.
Dariush brings a blend of cultural and professional experiences to the team, with expertise spanning physics, electronics, programming, and mechanical design.
Rapid Design Group Europe, Pilot Line Member
Kazuki joined Hamamatsu Photonics in 2017 and initially worked in the digital camera development department at Hamamatsu Photonics Japan. He played a key role in launching the TDI CCD camera, with a primary focus on analog circuit design.
Last year, Kazuki relocated to Germany to join the Rapid Design Group, aiming to strengthen relationships with European customers by providing local engineering support and insights. Kazuki holds a degree in electrical engineering.
