Robot vacuum cleaner

Robot vacuum cleaners move about automatically by measuring the position of walls and furniture, as well as the distance to surrounding obstacles. To do this measurement, it applies the principle of TOF (time-of-flight) and triangulation using light. A laser diode or LED is used for the light emitter device, and an image sensor or photo IC is used for the photosensor.

Recommended products

Hamamatsu offers a selection of products suitable for applications in robot vacuum cleaners.

Light emitter

Peak emission wavelength: 850 nm. This COB package LED is a surface mount type with a lens. It realizes narrow directivity.

Peak emission wavelength: 870nm. It realizes high output and high-speed response at a low price.

Triangulation CMOS linear image sensor

Si PIN photodiode featuring high-speed response (500 MHz).

Si APDs suitable for detecting light in the 700/800/900 nm band.

This compact devices integrate optical sensors, such as photodiodes and APD, with the front-end IC.

This one-dimensional distance image sensor uses the TOF method to measure distance. This is a 64 pixel type.

This sensor detects the incident position of light for triangulation.

A Compact and thin linear image sensor. Hamamatsu offers 512, 736, and 1536 pixel types.

Measurement example (distance image sensor)

It rotates a unit with a built-in distance linear image sensor and a laser to do omnidirectional distance measurement of the room.
