Hamamatsu Photonics Group Health and Safety Policy

Hamamatsu Photonics Group aims to grow and develop further as a reliable and trusted company that contributes to a better society and a healthier planet based on new technology, by committing to the research, development, and manufacture of photonics-related products which lead to the establishment of new industries.

As a responsible employer, we recognize that health and safety are important parts of human welfare. Therefore, our objective is to provide a safe and comfortable working environment and reduce occupational hazards to ensure the physical and mental well-being of all our employees. To achieve this, we:

  1. Established an occupational health and safety management system to promote continuous improvement in our activities.
  2. Undertake regular Risk Assessments to identify hazards and implement effective measures to reduce risk and prevent occupational injuries and illnesses.
  3. Defined health and safety objectives to reduce occupational risks and hazards, creating a comfortable working environment, to maintain the physical and mental well-being of our employees. We will actively promote our objectives to our employees to prevent occupational disasters, illness, and traffic accidents.
  4. Follow all laws, regulations, and corporate standards applicable to occupational Health and Safety.
  5. Communicate our Health and Safety Policy to all persons working in Hamamatsu Photonics Group to make them aware of their duties, and disclose it to all stakeholders.

Systems and programs

The Company establishes health and safety committees (headquarters and branch) as well as specialized subcommittees under each committee. The Headquarters Health and Safety Committee, headed by the responsible officer and including members from the union as well as management, advances activities to ensure safety, guided by an annual plan. The Executive Office of the Headquarters Health and Safety Committee is run by the Health and Safety Team, Employee Welfare Group, General Affairs Division.

Occupational health and safety management system

In accordance with the Industrial Safety and Health Act, each business location in Japan operates management systems based on risk assessment. Under this framework, Hamamatsu Photonics has acguired the certification of occupational health and safety management systems in the following divisions.

Measures on traffic safety

Because of the Company’s location in western Shizuoka Prefecture, many employees commute to work in their own vehicles. The Company takes the following measures to promote safe driving and prevent accidents.

  • Employees are reminded at the workplace about safe driving.
  • The Traffic Subcommittee provides traffic guidance.
  • Employees who have suffered traffic accidents are interviewed.
  • A designated-workplace system is in effect. In this system, workplaces with high traffic-accident rates are identified and activities are intensified at those locations. For example, traffic observers provide guidance, safety declarations are issued, traffic KYT (hazard-prediction training) is conducted monthly and seminars are provided by advisors and persons responsible for traffic.
