C17198

The C17198 is an imaging device that utilizes metasurface technology for THz wave-to-electron conversion and has sensitivity in the THz wave region. It is useful as "THz beam visualizer" for laboratory use, where it can visualize and observe invisible THz waves at hand. In addition, it is capable of high-speed imaging at up to 1000 fps, making it possible to image high-speed phenomena that had been difficult to capture with conventional thermal THz cameras.

Multiplication principle

  1. A THz wave is incident in the effective area of the THz I.I.
  2. Electrons are emitted from the metasurface into the vacuum by field electron emission according to the electric field intensity of the THz wave.
  3. Electrons collected by the MCP are multiplied 100,000 to 1,000,000 times.
  4. The multiplied electrons are converted into an image (visible light) using a phosphor.
  5. The intensified THz wave images can be observed using the naked eye or a camera, etc.

THz beam visualizer

Unlike conventional I.I. that uses the external photoelectric effect, the THz I.I. uses field electron emission to output electrons. The signal current increases and decreases exponentially according to the incident THz wave.

The video shows how the visible light image that can be acquired changes by adjusting the position of the I.I. relative to the focal point of the incident THz beam, and how the THz beam is blocked by paper wetted with water.
