There are many types of photomultiplier tubes with different characteristics in shape, spectral response range, structure, and effective area, etc. Our complete line of photomultiplier tubes helps users make the right choice that best suits their application.

Photomultiplier tubes are broadly divided into two types: a side-on type and a head-on type. The head-on type, also called the end-on type, receives incident light through the end of the glass bulb. It has a transmission mode photocathode deposited directly on the inner surface of the light input window and provides better spatial uniformity than the side-on type which uses a reflection mode photocathode. The head-on type also features a choice of photosensitive areas ranging from a few dozen square millimeters to several hundred square centimeters.

Side-on PMTs receive incident light through the side of the glass bulb and are widely used in spectrophotometers and general-purpose photometric systems.

Metal package photomultiplier tubes incorporate a unique electron multiplier called a metal channel dynode that delivers high-speed response and allows a compact, multi-anode design.

MCP-PMTs offer wide-bandwidth measurements down to the picosecond level as well as low-light-level detection at the photon counting level. Gated types are available.

PMTs designed to meet specific requirements, such as square or semispherical shapes, high magnetic field immunity, and ruggedized internal structures resistant to high temperatures and vibrations.
