浜松ホトニクスは、米国ローレンス・リバモア国立研究所が主導するレーザフュージョンエネルギー(IFE: Inertial Fusion Energy※1)の商業化を加速させる枠組み「The STARFIRE Hub※2」に、新たに設立された「半導体レーザ技術ワーキンググループ」へアジアから唯一の機関として参画します。
本ワーキンググループは、世界トップクラスの機関が協力してIFEの実現に必要な半導体レーザの“技術要件の定義”および“実現可能性の評価”を行うことで、半導体レーザの業界全体をさらに発展させるための技術革新を推進します。
本ワーキンググループでは、主に以下の活動を目的としています。
・IFEにおける半導体レーザの信頼性に関する共通定義の策定
・IFE用途における半導体レーザの信頼性試験の標準規格の策定
・IFEレーザドライバの励起光源としての半導体レーザの仕様の収束
本ワーキンググループに参画する機関・企業は以下の通りです。

当社は、このような国際的な連携を推進するとともに、策定された標準規格に基づいた技術開発を行うことで早期のIFEの実現に貢献します。

The Science & Technology Accelerated Research for Fusion Innovation & Reactor Engineering Hubの略。米国エネルギー省より4年間で1,600万ドルの助成金を受け、慣性核融合エネルギー科学技術加速研究のため2023年設立され、米国ローレンス・リバモア国立研究所が主導するハブ。欧米の7つの大学、4つの米国国立研究所、1つの国際研究所、3つの民間企業、1つの慈善団体、3つの民間IFE企業の全19機関により構成されている。
