浜松ホトニクスは、NEDO(国立研究開発法人新エネルギー・産業技術総合開発機構)の「ポスト5G情報通信システム基盤強化研究開発事業」における「量子コンピュータの産業化に向けた開発の加速」事業に、事業テーマ「量子コンピュータの産業化に向けた光部素材技術の開発」として採択されました。
当社は、2025年度から2027年度の3年間の予定で、量子コンピュータ(※)向け超高速カメラや多画素・高感度カメラ、多画素空間光変調器などの開発を目指します。
※ 量子コンピュータ:量子力学の現象を利用し高度な計算を実行するコンピュータで、さまざまな問題を高速で解くことができると期待されている。

量子コンピュータは、従来技術では不可能な計算問題を解決でき、産業革命を起こし得る重要な計算基盤技術とされています。世界中で量子コンピュータに関する大型投資が進められていることに加え、複数の関連スタートアップが立ち上がるなど産業化に向けた動きが加速しています。
量子コンピュータでは、中性原子方式やイオントラップ方式、光量子方式などのさまざまな仕組みが提案されており、各社が開発を加速しています。このような中、NEDOは、各種方式の量子コンピュータシステムの民間による開発、国内企業が強みを持つ部素材やミドルウェア開発、人材育成などへの重点支援を実施し開発を加速させ、世界に先駆けて量子コンピュータの産業化を実現することを目的に「量子コンピュータの産業化に向けた開発の加速」事業を公募し、当社の提案事業が1社単独で採択されました。
当社は、主に中性原子方式の量子コンピュータに向け、世界初の光子数の識別を可能とした低ノイズカメラを開発、製造、販売しています。また、空間光位相変調器(LCOS-SLM)においても、中性原子量子コンピュータの研究者から高い評価を受けており、量子コンピュータの産業化に向けたコア技術を有しています。今後、2025年度から2027年度の3年間の予定で、中性原子方式の量子コンピュータの産業化、特に大規模計算化・システム化に必要な超高速カメラや多画素・高感度カメラ、多画素空間光変調器の試作品を開発するとともに、量子コンピュータの安定動作に必要なレーザシステムの波長安定化のためのレーザ安定化技術を開発します。また、産業技術総合研究所や理化学研究所、国内外の量子コンピュータメーカーと共同し、中性原子方式のみならず、光量子方式やイオントラップ方式への応用を見据えて試作品を評価します。助成金の総額は約30億円の予定です。
