CERNは、世界中の研究者が集い、最先端の粒子加速器を活用して宇宙や物質の成り立ちを探究する国際研究機関です。未解明な物質の研究や革新的な技術の創出に加え、世界各国の研究機関との国際連携や次世代研究者の育成を通じて、科学技術の発展に貢献しています。
現在CERNでは、陽子同士の衝突頻度を飛躍的に向上させるHL-LHC (High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider)実験の準備が進められています。本実験では、ヒッグス粒子をはじめとするさまざまな粒子や物理現象をこれまで以上に高精度に測定し、その性質をより深く解明することを目指しています。
当社はATLAS実験装置向けにハイブリッドモジュールやSiストリップディテクタを供給しました。またCMS実験装置向けには、約1,000平方メートルにおよぶ巨大なSi検出器を構成する8インチSiピクセルディテクタ (8PAD)を量産したほか、アバランシェフォトダイオード (APD)、粒子の到達時間を高精度に測定するMPPCやLGADなど、多様な光半導体デバイスを提供しています。当社はこれらの供給を通じて、CERNの研究を支える実験装置の高性能化と大規模化に貢献してきました。
