現代の学術研究や産業において、光の波長を解析し、物質の特性等を詳細に調べることができる分光器はさまざまなアプリケーションにおいて重要な役割を果たしています。しかし、近年の技術の進歩により様々なメーカーから多種多様な分光器が販売されており、自身の用途に合った分光器を選ぶことは容易ではありません。

波長分解能とは、分光器において光を検出する際にどの程度細かく波長を分けることができるかの指標です。例えば波長分解能が1 nmの分光器では500 nmと501 nmの差を分別できますが、波長分解能が5 nmの分光器では500 nmと501 nmの差は分別できません。
波長分解能はグレーティングの刻線数、入射スリット幅、センサの画素サイズ、センサの画素数といった要素の組み合わせで決まります。
波長分解能が高いほどより詳細に波長情報を取得できる一方で、感度が低下するため測定したい光の強度に応じて最適な分光器を選ぶ必要があります。
