イオン分離の手法として、TOF(Time of Flight)を用いる質量分析装置です。イオンを電界で加速させることで、質量電荷比に応じて生じる飛行時間の差を測定します。
わずかな飛行時間の差を捉えるため、検出器には高速な応答性とタイムジッタの少ない検出器が求められます。
TOF-MSでは、質量電荷比に応じた速度差によるイオンの飛行時間の差を測定します。電界で加速されたイオンのわずかな到着時間(イオンの飛行時間)の差を検出器によって測定するため、検出器の応答特性はTOF-MSにおいて特に重要視されます。
高い分解能を持つ高性能装置においては、サブナノ秒の応答速度(FWHM)が必要となります。浜松ホトニクスでは、サブナノ秒の高速応答性を有する製品から、コンパクトな装置構成に適した数ナノ秒の応答性を有するものまで、さまざまな種類のTOF-MSに適した幅広い検出器ラインアップを揃えています。
検出器におけるイオン入射面の平坦性を指します。同じ質量電荷比のイオンが同時に複数入射した場合、平坦度が重要になります。
入射面が平坦であることによって、イオン-電子変換タイミングの時間差低減が期待でき、イオンの飛行時間情報の劣化を抑制します。
応答波形は解析における測定データの扱いやすさに影響します。

両極性イオンの測定にフローティング動作対応の検出器が必要となります。正負の高圧にフローティング動作させるために、高耐圧のカップリングを施す必要があります。
