当社ではキロジュール(kJ)級の出力を目指したレーザ技術開発を行っています。1 kJのレーザ出力は、レーザ核融合用ドライバの1ユニット分に相当します。このkJ級のレーザ技術を確立することで、高エネルギーのレーザ光による、これまでにないレーザ加工の実現など、新たな産業応用の開拓が可能になります。この他にも、電子・イオン加速や中性子発生などへの応用展開が期待されます。
本開発品の一部は、国立研究開発法人新エネルギー・産業技術総合開発機構(NEDO)の「高輝度・高効率次世代レーザー技術開発」プロジェクトにより開発しました。(2016年~2021年)
レーザには波長、パルス幅、エネルギー、繰り返し周波数などさまざまな特性があります。それらの特性を用途に応じて最適に変調することで、これまで以上に高効率な処理が可能となるだけでなく、飛躍的に品質が向上したり新たな効果が付与されるなど、非連続な付加価値を生み出すことができます。これらの技術は、レーザ加工、環境計測、材料分析、半導体製造、医療、宇宙、基礎科学などあらゆる分野への応用展開が可能で、テーブルトップサイズに小型化することで、産業界や学術界に幅広く利用されることが期待されます。
本開発品の一部は、内閣府 総合科学技術・イノベーション会議が主導する革新的研究開発推進プログラム(ImPACT)の佐野雄二プログラム・マネージャーの研究開発プログラム「ユビキタス・パワーレーザーによる安全・安心・長寿社会の実現」の一環として開発したもので、今後、製品化に向けた開発を進めていきます。
高出力レーザの開発では、励起用光源として用いる高出力半導体レーザモジュールの開発も行っています。この半導体レーザモジュールは、通信や加工などに用いられている通常の半導体レーザとは異なる、非常に高い光エネルギー、パルス動作時間が可変、大面積・均一照射が可能であるなどの特長を有しています。この半導体レーザモジュールを、励起用光源のほか、金属の熱処理プロセスやコンクリートの破砕などへ応用する研究を行っています。
